Where the Fabric Ends
This work began with a vintage dress from Martin Margiela’s tenure at the house. Its white label, KOKONOE tag, inside-out construction and raw edges reveal elements that would normally remain hidden within a finished garment. Here, seams, layers and exposed structure are not concealed, but become part of the form itself. I came to see the dress not simply as clothing, but as a sculptural object existing somewhere between finished and unfinished. Fabric, seams, layers and empty space seemed to question where completion actually begins and ends. “Where the Fabric Ends” carries that way of looking into photography. Rather than documenting the garment itself, the image focuses on the form that emerges at the edge of the fabric, and on the moment when a structure meant to remain hidden becomes visible. It is a study of the quiet tension between completion and incompletion.
